Escapia Corporation :: Product Manager :: 2004 - 2005

I was hired to define and manage all aspects of the Escapia Web Portal - a single application for building, managing, and rendering consumer websites for vacation rental management companies. Specific accomplishments included:

  • Researching and defining the needs of all users both internal and external.
  • Developing, maintaining, and communicating a vision of the finished application.
  • Creating a seven phase development road map, which balanced prioritized User needs with development dependencies.
  • Creating detailed UI designs, writing functional specifications, and acting as both program and project manager for the individual development phases.
  • Managing the implementation team who used the application to create finished websites for customers. Providing feedback and critics on individual designs.
  • Defining internal processes. For example, a new website development process.
  • Defining product offerings for the sales team.

Microsoft Corporation :: Technical UI Program Manager :: 2002 - 2004

Defined features, user interaction models, and interface designs for a new MSN-wide content management system. Tasks include gathering customer requirements; uses case, interaction contexts, and process modeling; defining UI guidelines and standards; delivering final UI specifications. Also involves working across product groups, prototyping, and acting as user advocate.

AppliedTheory Seattle :: Senior Web Consultant :: 2000 - 2001

Designed and implemented solutions for a variety of clients. Some examples include a property maintenance, work order management system for Corrigo Inc.. The interactive trip planner for the Alaska Travel Industries Association website. Scope and requirements analysis for a new Washington State Business Leadership Network website.

RealNetworks Inc. :: Product and Interface Designer :: 2000

Developed three designs for the RealArcade game console; an application for managing your shareware game library as well as for browsing and searching RealNetworks shareware game library. After defining a dual mode, interaction model for the application, I articulated that in three different interface designs. A 3D interface, a 2D full screen interface, and a windowed interface.

Microsoft Corporation :: 1996 - 1999

  • BackOffice Interaction Design Group :: Product Designer

    Designed the user interface for Share Point Portal Server, V1. Components included a web portal, Windows Explorer webviews, Windows Explorer search pane, and schema editing forms.

  • Windows CE :: Product Designer

    As part of the newly formed design group, played a minor role on Window CE v2.0 and its bundled applications.

  • Interactive Media Group - 3D :: Lead Designer/Art Director

    Consulted on a variety of projects as well as being primary designer for the Talisman Demo. Talisman was a real time 3D rendering technology being developed by the research group.

  • Hardware Gaming Devices :: Lead User Interface Designer

    With a mission statement to “make things more game like”, I established a device-centric interaction model and created interface designs for all software associated with gaming devices. This includes the Game Device Profiler (an application for configuring devices), control panels, and Force Factory (a Developer Studio plugin for creating force feedback device forces).

Creative Multimedia :: Art Director, Graphics Lead :: 1994 - 96

Produced, designed, and art directed multimedia CD-ROM titles for a variety of established print publishers including: Sports Illustrated for Kids; Golf Digest; and Life magazine.
